To apply for a student visa (study permit) for Canada, students must first enroll and be accepted to study at a Canadian educational institution. Students who wish to obtain a student visa to Canada may apply at the Canadian visa office that is responsible for their country of residence.
Students who make an application for a student visa for Canada and successfully obtain a student visa for Canada may bring with them their spouse, common-law partner and/or their dependent children.
Students who have obtained a study visa to Canada and have successfully completed their studies may possibly qualify to apply for an open work permit.
Who Can Apply?
- You must be able to prove that you have enough money to pay for your;
- Tuition fees
- Living expenses for your self, and any family members who accompany you
- Return transportation for you, and any family members who accompany you
- You must be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record
- You must be in good health and willing to complete a medical examination, if necessary
- You must satisfy an immigration officer that you will leave Canada when you have completed your studies

Can stay in Canada once I complete my studies?
Canada allows foreign students who have completed their studies and qualify under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) to apply for landed immigrant status. To find out more contact our office.
Can I bring my family with me to Canada while I study?
Yes. You may bring your spouse, common-law partner, and dependent children. Your spouse or common-law partner will receive an open work permit for the duration of your studies.
What about health insurance?
Unfortunately, the government of Canada does not pay for the medical costs of foreign students. Health insurance is a provincial jurisdiction and varies among provinces. We recommended you to contact the school to which you are applying or attending to receive more information regarding the health insurance packages they offer.
