The Newfoundland Provincial Nominee Program can provide alternate and quicker entry into Canada. In partnership with the federal government of Canada, the province of Newfoundland has established it’s own set of criteria for those who are interested to settle in Newfoundland and Labrador.

There are four (3) categories under which you may qualify.

International GraduatesFor international students who have graduated from a recognized post-secondary educational institution in Canada, to be considered for nomination for permanent residence in Canada

Family ConnectionsFor those who have family members who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents living in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Skilled WorkersFor those individuals who have specialized skills that are deemed as having a critical impact on the operations of an employer in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Eligibility Requirements for International Graduates
You are eligible to apply under this category if you;

  • have completed at least half of your studies in Canada and have graduated from an eligible publicly funded Canadian college or university
  • have completed a minimum of a two (2) year diploma or degree program, while studying on a full-time basis. One-year post-graduate degree programs and certificate programs which require a previous degree or diploma are also eligible
  • have a full-time job offer in your field of study, or related field of study, from a Newfoundland and Labrador employer or have a proven attachment to the local labour market over at least a six (6) month period with a reasonable expectation for full-time employment
  • have applied to the NLPNP within two (2) years of the date on which you received your degree or diploma
  • have legal status to work in Canada
  • Have the qualifications, training, skills, and accreditation required for the job
  • Can demonstrate the intention and ability to settle permanently in Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Can demonstrate that you have sufficient financial resources to successfully establish yourself and any dependents in Canada
  • Can demonstrate sufficient English and/or French language capability to perform employment duties.

Eligibility Requirements for Family Connections
You are eligible to apply under this category if you have a related relative in one of the following ways;

Parents, Grandparents, Sister, Brother,
Step-Sister/Brother, Niece/nephew, Sister-in-law/brother-in-law, first cousin.

In addition, the sponsor must also meet the following conditions:

  • Be a permanent resident of Canada for at least twelve (12) months, or be a Canadian Citizen
  • Be residing in Newfoundland and Labrador for at least twelve (12) consecutive months at the time that your Relative’s application is submitted to the NLPNP.
  • Must reside in the province on a full-time basis and have a commitment to continue to reside in the province on a full-time basis.
  • Be able to prove your Relative’s relationship to you.
  • Be financially self-supporting (have not received financial support through the Newfoundland and Labrador Income Support Program, Employment Insurance, or the Resettlement Assistance Program within the last twelve (12) months).
  • Be willing to sign a Declaration and Affidavit of Support which includes your commitment to a settlement plan for the Relative.

Eligibility Requirements for Skilled Workers
You are eligible to apply under this category if you;

  • Have a full-time job offer from a Newfoundland and Labrador employer, or a job or job offer that has compensation in the form of a salary and benefits package that meets provincial employment standards and prevailing wage rates;
  • Have a Citizenship and Immigration Canada Work Permit or is entitled to apply for one;
  • Have the qualifications, training, skills, and/or accreditation required for the job;
  • Can demonstrate the intention and ability to settle permanently in Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • Can demonstrate that you have sufficient settlement funds and financial resources to successfully establish yourself and any dependents in Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • Your employer (or future employer) can demonstrate a need for your skill set; and
  • Can demonstrate sufficient English or French language capability to perform your employment duties.
