Caregiver Program
In-Home Caregivers are individuals who are qualified to provide care for children, elderly persons or persons with disabilities in private homes without supervision. Both the employer and the employee must follow several steps to meet the requirements.
Caregivers’ Path to become a Permanent Resident
On June 18, 2019, changes to the In-Home Caregiver program came into force. There are now 2 new streams, and caregivers must apply for permanent residence before being eligible to come to Canada to work as caregivers. Employers no longer require LMIAs to bring a caregiver to Canada. For More Information Click HERE.
Interim Pathway Program (July 8, 2019 – October 8, 2019)
- Must have completed at least 12 months of work experience
- Must pass minimum English requirements
Home Child Care Provider Pilot Program (Maximum 2750 applications/year)
- Must pass minimum English requirements
- Must have an post-secondary education credential of at least 1 year
- Must submit a complete PR application
- Can bring your spouse and/or dependent children to Canada
Home Support Worker Pilot Program (Maximum 2750 applications/year)
- Must pass minimum English requirements
- Must have an post-secondary education credential of at least 1 year
- Must submit a complete PR application
- Can bring your spouse and/or dependent children to Canada
Childcare Stream (Closing November 29, 2019)
- Must have completed at least 24 months of work experience
- Must pass minimum English requirements
- Must have an post-secondary education credential of at least 1 year
High Medical Needs Stream (Closing November 29, 2019)
- Must have completed at least 24 months of work experience
- Must pass minimum English requirements
- Must have an post-secondary education credential of at least 1 year
Live-In Caregiver Program (Closed unless on LCP Permit)
- You hold a LCP work permit
- Your employer submitted the LMO/LMIA prior to November 30, 2014
- Completed at least 24 months of full time work
