B-1 Temporary Business Visa Information
The B-1 Temporary Business visa allows citizens of certain visa-exempt countries to enter the United States for a period of 1 to 6 months with the option of extending their stay up to 6 additional months (for a total of one year maximum per visit). All Canadian citizens are implicitly granted a B-1 Temporary Business visa as long as they meet the basic requirements and show that they do not intend to stay in the U.S. on a permanent basis. You may obtain a B-1 Temporary Business visa at a Port of Entry.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for the B-1 Temporary Business visa, you must show that you will participate in business activities of a commercial or professional nature in the United States such as:
- Sales of Canadian products and/or services
- After-sale services & warranty work
- Trade fairs
- Data collection
- Design & planning
- Market analysis & marketing operations
- Negotiation
- Distribution
- Business meeting
- Production and manufacturing
- General services
Requirements
- You are entering the United States to conduct business of a legitimate nature
- You plan to remain for a specific limited period of time (no more than 1 year)
- You have the funds to cover all your expenses during your stay in the U.S.
- You have a residence outside the United States which you have no intention of abandoning, as well as other binding ties which will ensure your return abroad
- You are otherwise admissible to the United States
The B-1 Temporary Business visa does not allow automatic entry to a spouse or dependent children of B-1 Temporary Business visa holders. If your spouse or dependent children plan to enter the United States with you, they must apply for their own visa.
